The November Wobble: Finding Yourself Before the Holiday Rush

The November Wobble: Finding Yourself Before the Holiday Rush

If you’re feeling a little… wobbly right now, you’re not alone.
Late November has a particular flavour for Mums. A mix of excitement, exhaustion and “wait… how is it nearly Christmas already?”

Kids are finishing school.
The calendar is filling up.
The to-do lists suddenly multiply overnight.
And somehow every event needs a plate of something, a costume or a secret Santa gift you forgot to buy.

It’s a lot.

And while everyone else seems to be sliding into “festive spirit,” you might be teetering somewhere between “ho-ho-ho” and “oh-no-no.”

Where You Are (Really)

Some days you’re fine, even thriving.
Other days your brain is one more question away from short circuiting.
You want to enjoy this season, truly.
The lights, the magic, the memories.

But when life speeds up, self care is the first thing that quietly slips through the cracks.
We promise ourselves:
“I’ll slow down once school ends.”
“I’ll look after myself after Christmas.”
I’ll rest when we’re away.”

But you know the pattern.
Later becomes later becomes never.

The Gentle Check-In

So, before we dive into December, before the rush and ribbons and routines all blur together…
stop for just a moment.

Ask yourself:
How am I actually feeling right now?
Tired?
A little overwhelmed?
Emotionally stretched?
Or maybe craving space, quiet or just ten minutes without someone calling your name?

There’s no wrong answer.
Only permission to feel what’s real.

What You Can Do Right Now

You don’t need a full plan or a perfect routine.
You need tiny acts of care that support you as the year wraps up.

Here are a few soft starters:

Breathe before you begin.
Before school drop off, before opening the laptop, before facing the washing. One deep breath resets more than you think.

Build a “minimums list.”
Three tiny things that keep you steady: water, sunlight, movement, quiet time. When life gets hectic, return to these.

Create pockets of pause.
Sit in the car for two minutes before going inside.
Tea outside after dinner.
A slow shower at night.

Say no where you can.
You don’t have to be everywhere, bake everything or fix everyone’s emotional Christmas chaos.

Choose one thing that’s just for you.
A book, a walk, a hobby you paused. Start again, even for five minutes.

These small moments aren’t selfish.
They’re scaffolding.
Little supports that keep you steady through a season that can empty you if you’re not careful.

A Little Note to Take With You

You deserve to feel good before the holidays, not once they’re over.
And you don’t need a big reset: just small, simple ways to come back to yourself.
Even now.
Even in November.
Especially in November.
